PMOI is a research unit (EA 4490) belonging to the « Université Droit et Santé de Lille » (Lille 2) and the « Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale » (ULCO). It is a member of the IMPRT (Institut de Médecine Prédictive et de Recherche Thérapeutique, IFR 114), and is linked to the Ecole Doctorale Biologie Santé (ED 446).

In the PMOI clinician and non clinician researchers are working together (rheumatologists, orthopaedic surgeons, bone radiologists, dental surgeons, cellular biologists, molecular biologists, physiologists, biochemist, spectroscopist). Their complementary competencies are focused to the study of the relationship between bone tissue and medullar adiposity.

Their work hypothesis is that this relationship is involved in the pathogenesis of bone diseases such as osteoporosis and osteonecrosis. Three diseases are more especially studied: the osteoporosis of anorexia nervosa, femoral head osteonecrosis, and osteonecrosis of the jaw.
